Skilled Composites Technician | Position Overview:

Carlson Commercial & Industrial Services Ltd. is looking for individuals that have experience performing a variety of roles in the composites manufacturing process. Individuals with fibreglass manufacturing experience are highly recommended to apply for this job.   • Must have previous experience in fibreglass manufacturing
  • Previous experience using a chopper gun
  • Must have previous experience in Hand Layup and Open molding
  • Previous Gel Coat application experience
  • Closed Molding and LRTM experience is considered and asset
  • Experience with design, fabrication and finishing
  • Previous experience in building and maintaining molds and tooling is considered an asset
  • Mechanically inclined with competency when working with both hands and power tools
  • High comfort level with metric and imperial units and measurement
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, engineering drawings and process plans
  • Previous experience in handling and storing flammable liquids
  • Previous experience in 5S to keep work area clean, organized and productive is considered an asset


  • Attention to detail and ability to solve problems
  • Ability to manage time, multitask accordingly and shift to one project from another quickly as business needs change
  • Effective in communication with co-workers and leaders
  • Accountability in work ethic and ownership of workmanship results
  • Communication skills to identify issues to Production Manager
  • Ability to ask for help from co-workers and supervisors
  • Ability to pass Criminal Records Check as well as Drug and Alcohol Testing as needed for site specific access requirements.


Composites Technicians are an integral part of meeting client expectations as they work from start to finish in the manufacturing process. The following job responsibilities will be trained and performed:

  • General composite skills:
  • Ply cutting, lamination of glass fiber and other composite materials
  • Hand Layup Construction in open molding
  • Filament Winding construction and operation of winder is considered a valuable asset
  • Secondary bonding of fittings and accessories to fabricated products.
  • Mixing of resins, initiators, adhesives, primers and paints
  • Detail trimming to scribed mold lines, printed templates, and drawing specific locations
  • Assembly and bonding of composite-to-composite or hardware-to-composite surfaces
  • Sanding, filling, fairing, finishing and general paint preparation tasks
  • Follow prescribed paperwork and safety procedures
  • Measure, cut and assemble FRP structural products to for a finished product.
  • Assembly and preparation of molds, as well as demolding and mold preservation/repair
