Lead Hand (Field Crew) – DyTerra Corporation – Winnipeg, MB


This person is responsible for work site leadership, coordinating the work of service technicians and lead hands on fertilizer construction job sites. As a hands-on leaders, they will also perform welding, repair and build duties and ensure productivity, safety and quality on all assigned projects.


  • Experience supervising a crew in the field and on the road
  • Fair and personable individual who leads by example and focuses on teamwork
  • Must have a commitment to safe work practices and be able to enforce safety policies
  • Experience in construction, rigging, millwrighting and custom fabrication
  • CWB SMAW welding ticket; CWB Welding supervisor is an asset
  • Strong blueprint reading ability and experience and ability to lay out materials
  • Problem solver who can rapidly assess and respond to unexpected situations
  • Reliable, organized and self-motivated individual who follows up and follows through
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and work at heights (up to 200 feet)
  • Smart phone to use for company-related apps
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving abstract and willingness to go for Class 3

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead and motivate service technicians, building staff performance through coaching and training
  • Manage crew activities to meet deadlines, quality goals, and deliver jobs on time and on budget
  • Ensure employees know how to perform each job assigned to them in a safe and efficient manner
  • Interpret blueprints, provide instruction and explanation to the team
  • Maintain and ensure safe working conditions, follow company safety procedures and ensure site regulations are met at all times
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and equipment operators on site
  • Ensure communication within Construction Manager, note issues, and provide status updates
  • Request POs for purchases and issue to vendors; order materials as needed/directed
  • Hands-on assembly, fitting, installation and repair of fertilizer handling equipment
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Assist on service jobs for other NH3, liquid and propane work as needed in the shop
  • Preparation and timely submission of work reports and safety logs
  • Drive truck/trailer combinations and complete required National Safety Code logs
  • Resolve work or staff problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and quality
